Best known for her role as Kara “Starbuck†Thrace on Battlestar Galactica, actress Katee Sackhoff has amazed audiences with both the versatility of her roles throughout her career and her unique ability to portray strong female characters.
Born in Portland Oregon, Katee began taking drama and dance classes at the early age of six. Her parents said that she was always a class clown throughout school because of her desire to be the centre of attention and found a creative outlet in high school productions of Bye Bye Birdie, Oliver, and Fiddler on the Roof.
Soon after graduation, Katee auditioned for an extra part in the movie Fifteen and Pregnant (1998) with Kirsten Dunst. The film producers immediately recognized her talent and granted Katee her first speaking part as a pregnant teen named Karen Gotarus.
This was followed by the role of Mary in the USA original movie Hefner: Unauthorized (1999). Soon after Katee became a full-fledged cast member of the series The Fearing Mind (2000) on the Fox Family Channel and starred as Jenna Danzig in Halloween:Resurrection (2002). Both these roles opened the way for her to star as the title character’s daughter in the 2001 TV series “The Education of Max Bickford.â€
Katee has also made a number of guest spots on shows, such as ER (2002), Cold Case (2004), MTV’s Undressed (2000), and Zoe, Duncan, Jack, & Jane (1999).
In 2003, Katee landed the role of Starbuck in a reimagined miniseries of the cult classic Battlestar Galactica. The miniseries did so well that the Sci Fi Channel and Sky TV formed a collaborative effort to commission a full series. The show has now been on for three years. Katee’s role of Starbuck, although at first controversial for having changed the original 1978 character into a female part, has attracted a wide audience. Katee even said that she decided to give up smoking when she started to receive multiple fan letters from little girls saying they wanted to be just like Starbuck when they grew up.
Along with her role as nurse Sherry Clarke in White Noise: The Light (2007), Katee will soon be starring in The Last Sentinel.
